Twelve years of asking the same question

Published on

Twelve years ago, in a small room in Braga, Portugal, a software developer with a curiosity for electronic music asked a simple question: can a computer become an instrument?

That question became Imaginando.

What started as a single MIDI controller app — LIVKONTROL, the predecessor to LK — grew into something we never fully planned. One product led to another. A synthesizer. A granular engine. A visual instrument. A groovebox. Ten tools in total, built for musicians, producers, and visual artists who want software that stays out of the way and lets them create.

This year we're also marking two milestones within the milestone: DRC, our polyphonic synthesizer, turns 10. And VS, our visual synthesizer, turns 5. Two products that defined who we are — one for the way it proved that serious synthesis was possible on mobile, the other for asking a question nobody else was asking: what does music look like?

To celebrate all of it, every Imaginando app and expansion is up to 60% off — at imaginando.pt, the App Store, and Google Play. The sale runs June 1–12. No codes needed. Prices are already reduced at checkout.

We're a small, independent, bootstrapped team. We don't have investors or a marketing department. What we have is you — the people who use our tools, share feedback, report bugs, and keep coming back. Every product we've built has been shaped by that ongoing conversation.

Thank you for twelve years.

— Nuno and the Imaginando team
